Knowledge, Learning, and Information - carrying on the conversation

As I tried to jump in the zoom conversation today, my wifi kept interrupting my participation, so I turn here to share my thoughts.

I was excited about what was happening. I felt everything I read in Moon's book, our Module one text, was reflected in our conversation. Our own limiting beliefs and frameworks colour or taint what we connect with, what we take in as information, who we learn from and how or if we embody the materials. Our own experiences either assist in opening us to new information or ask us to dismiss it. 

I feel our job in this MA is to hear all the voices we can, know how our own experience influences our learning, and then with that awareness be open to what else is out there. Have a look. Break out of the single-story narrative. Seek other perspectives. I feel the work explored by Descartes, Spinoza and Kant took one perspective and built upon it or shaped it into their own idea. Inspired by one another. Look at the contribution they made by having the courage to explore and explain their point of view. 

When we all contribute to the conversation we build a whole picture. We all benefit. And in turn, build our picture.

    Thank you Sheahan, I agree wholeheartedly yet struggle with accepting what I read. I would love to be inspired, yearn in fact, but am mostly left with questions and doubts. This seems to happen more as I enter the nitty gritty of my subject. I can't seem to switch off this self doubt yet find it's all consuming. I look forward to the interview process to hopefully shed new light and life in order to, as you say, build my own picture - or at least understand it better.

    Dear Sheahan, such a wonderful post. Thank you for sharing! I am sorry you had problems with your wifi, it would have been lovely to have you part of the conversation!
    I love what you are saying here..."I feel our job in this MA is to hear all the voices we can...". It's so very true...and I am realising how much I want to do more of that even beyond this course...

    Hi Sheahan,

    It's nice to hear that you are perhaps finding through-lines in your reading; those who refer to others, and the funnelling of thought to one person, perhaps. It can be so satisfying to acknowledge when the thoughts of others align or oppose, but I have realised recently the importance of having you own conviction - this is invaluable and, I believe, fundamental to this course. It sounds as though you are on this page too?

    How are you AOLs coming along - what are your fields?

Hello Fellow MAPP Module Ones, I am at the point where I am going to submit my AOL Essay and am formulating my Portfolio...yet, I have a few remaining questions and am reaching out to you my colleagues for advice. I believe I have overthought and confused myself. I will try to be as clear as possible, and would really appreciate your comments. My First Blog Post

🌎 My First Blog Post As I prepare to embark on this journey of attaining my Masters through Middlesex University, I am reminded of how little I know about the tech world.  Oh, I use tech. I don't live in the dark ages. I have a laptop, smartphone (yes, upgraded from my Nokia flip phone), and we even have a wireless home security system that talks directly to that smartphone. I also use tech in dance class. I have my set playlists, and use my iPod, or laptop for music, my phone for slow-mo videos, and have even ventured to try Spotify. I do not consider myself to be very tech-savvy. I feel like as soon as I know how to use and manage an app or device, something updates and changes! And then the pandemic. Offering us ways to grow. We pivot and shift. It has challenged us in many ways and opened a new cyber door for a lot of us to walk through - Zoom.  Zooming. Is it a verb? It does feel like that some days. PPP Induction Meeting - Updated

What a great way to start off my Friday morning!  Thank you, everyone, for turning on your cameras. To see so many fellow artists from around the world encouraged me for the months ahead, and how I may be able to learn from you all. I am missing personal interactions, so it was wonderful to glimpse my new colleagues' real-time animated faces.  I just figured out how to get the Follow button on my sidebar . After more research I believe I have fixed the problem. To follow, click Subscribe and then it should give the follow option. I hope it works this time.
